38 Scarab vs. 38 Fountain
Just sold my 27 Fountain Fever and about to buy 91 38 Fountain fever. Have been running into some 93-94 38 Scarabs for sale at what seem to be really reasonable prices.
Not that I am jumping camp, aside from the most expected beak and swim platform / size complex issues, and aside for what I think is the unquestioned speed advantage of a Fountain hull; Do you guys have any feedbaqck on these 93-94 38' Scarabs?
Rough vs calm water, speed expectations, hull integrity, built quality, interior, and the such..... All feedback greatly appreciated.

I have been on both and the 38 scarab is way bigger. because of that the beak will always be faster until the real big water. it all depends on your needs the narrow fountain or the wide body scarab that is a real 38 feet not 35 also the ones i have been on were step hulls good luck james.

Pablo,
Been on both of them.
The Scarab had an unbeleivable solid ride compared to the beak boat. The fountain hit harder compared to the Scarab.
Take a ride in both if you get a chance. I do agree that the Fountain run faster, but you can always add some HP.
The Scarab AVS is an incredible boat!! Good luck with your decision!!

Indeed, thanks for the feedback. I am looking at 93 Thunders 38'. They are about 600 pound heavier factory and have a less agressive pad so you make all the sense in the world. I also agree that the interior is definitely bigger overall. Must admit I like the finish of the Fountain inside better.
As much as I hate to admit it, I am actually leaning 38 Thunder camp jumping!?!?!
Will keep everyone posted. Please give me as much feedback as you can...........

Between all the Scarabs and Fountains i have been on, yes the fit of the Fountains is better but the room in the Scarabs is better! The cabins in the Fountains is like that of a boat 6' smaller!!! I think the cabin in the 30' Scarab is bigger then that of a 38' Fountain!!!
I also like the freeboard of the Scarabs better then the fountains. You just feel all that much safer in big water then in the fountains.
Yes the Fountains will run faster, but look at the water you'll be in and what you want to use it for. You gonna overnight on the boat? Bring any friends along? Bring extra gear along? .......Good luck fitting everything in on the fountain! I had 4 people plus all the gear in the Scarab. Everyone had their space and it was tight but it all fit and no one complained!

Jeffrey from OSO has one of a friends avail from the boaRd.
Its a 93 with great power, great condition....like 69 k
Its a '93 tHUNDER
I passed because not enough options for the wigfe in the cabin. Thats the only reason
The fountain and the scarab are two opposite boats.
I have been on a 38 scarab with 500's...no step (1997)
Running outside the surf break and pulled on a 38 fountain with same power. Bigger water the scarab will be more sound.
The room on the 2 boats cant be compared either.Cabin and cockpit. Fit is not all that bad, but remember I never met a fountain guy that isnt replacing his seats, cockpit. The seams all come loose on the material
scarab 37'7 inches without the platform
8'9"

Hey guys, what's a clean 1997 38' Scarab Thunder w/ mag 502 's and bravos worth? Is $ 105,000 overpriced? Low hrs- has AC/ shower/flush head?

I've seen them priced between 90 and 120 with some bells and whistles.
If you get a 38, try to get one with HP 500's if possible. The ride is unbeievable!!
Wouldn't spill a martini!!!

105 is way over priced.
real money in the 80's should buy it. I know 2 97's less than 90 with low low hrs / 502's loaded...1 with a/c. Those are close to reasonable.
I know a boat in Michigan purple lightning...loaded I would call on..but too much $$ Hear he is not to flexible either
