My Scarab had this problem until I had Darin at Houston Prop convert my Mirage to the Accelerator. Works great now.

Roby,
I had my prop (mirage plus 25) done by Darin at HP and I did not gain any top end. 62.6 is the best run on the GPS. This was about the top end before I sent it to Darin. What are you running? Should I send it back to Darin. I was hoping for a nice round 66 or at least 64.

Re: 22' Scarab guys ring in
I put a 4-blade Bravo1 on and really like how it works. I have to work at it to make it blow out. I went with a 22", I should have went with a 24". With the 22" 4950@60mph. 13% slip, Rpm is to high for a stock 7.4. I use it for a all around prop. Water skiing ect. but not for top end. Doug

Scarab 22

Re: 22' Scarab guys ring in
Hello Guys,
I have a scarab 22/96. When I bought the boat it came with a 7.4ltr, but It wasn't enough. So I bought a new 502mpi and upgrade the ecm, the headers, flame arrestor and the lower unit 2" shorter. All I can tell you is that when the engine was out of the box, I used to hit 70mph, after all the money spent I'm still hitting 70mph. Now the only option is to put a whipple charger, but the problem is there isn't enough front clearance to put crank pulley. Any ideas ??

the rear bench is screwed down to the wooden floor with just a few wood screws. you might gain a little space by trying to move it forward a little and modifying it so the hatch will still close.
the bulkhead to the front of the engine can also be cut out carefully in the center to gain some space, it will not weaken the structure (its quite thin and weak anyway).
i think it can be done.
good luck

That thing should fly with the whipple. Keep us posted with results or any problems you run into. Definitely going to have to do some modifying in front of the engine because there's no room there.

Re: 22' Scarab guys ring in
Syclone,
the problem is not the rear bench, it's the rear bulkhead that there is under the bench. When I inspected it properly, I found out that there is the fuel tank just behind it.
Guy's
note that who is running a 502 mpi in raw water, check every season the intake manifold cause it tends to leak. Mine did and now I am rebuilding the engine, and since the need for speed is always on my mind, I fitted a new cam and a set roller rockers.
As soon I try it, I will tell you the result.
Anyone, can tell me what is the maximun hull speed for a 22' ?
