Bottom Paint

I am being told two different stories about this boat that I am looking to buy. Is it normal to see this much paint come off the bottom just from pressuring washing the boat at the end of the season?

Can it just be painted over with another coat or is the paint coming off a sign of not being prepped properly?

The boat has been used in salt H20.

just shooting from the hip, I'd say just like any other paint job, if its starting to chip and peel, they'll be prep work involved prior to paint.

I believe it is normal for some paints. We had an old 1987 sea ray cuddy that did the same thing. Even the paint was the same color. The paint would come off if you brushed against it while in the water......almost like chalk. I think that some of the newer bottom paints have solved this problem. Hope that helps.

Bottom paint is made to come off. It will always brush off when touched. Some paints more then others. That said if the glass is fine who cares. I have a 39 mainship that gets a bottom job every two years or as needed. This is just maintenance when you leave your boat in the water.

If you paint it your self follow the safety instructions. It is made to kill living things!

Thank you for your replies. We drove 650 miles round trip on Thursday to find out that the boat was a piece of crap. There was mold growing on the outside of the boat, in the cabin and on the canvas. We were extremely disappointed and came home without the boat.

The search continues ... Anyone know of any 270 Sundancers with twins, air and a trailer?
