Re: more hp from 496 ho

You can get an honest 525hp still n/a with the Raylar kit...
Bob from Full Throttle built one and dyno'd it, and it was right there, as advertised...
It's a very nice looking setup, too...

I...

Re: Mercruiser 260 help

First question:
Have you done a compression test?
Second question:
Have you done a leakdown test?

It could be that the engine is just tired...

Re: Hp500 Oil Temp

MiamiOS, you can dump the overflow anywhere.
I would not personally dump it into the exhaust, but you could.

My dump flows quite a bit, especially before the thermostat opens.

I would, if...

Re: Hp500 Oil Temp

I know what you mean, Vandeano.

Thar ain't much room for the hose!
===
Fortunately, I still had a 7.4mpi (my old motor) to scavenge from!
I used a hose that had some good bends to fit this,...

Re: Hp500 Oil Temp

Thanks, Vandeano...

I assume you mean the stainless piece going from the crossover to the P/S cooler? If so, that is from Jegs. It is a radiator hose for cars that comes with adapter rubber pieces...

Re: How much H.P. can a Bravo III take?

Assuming single engine:
If you are running the 7.4MPI otherwise stock internally with the procharger, then I think you have two potential grenade items....

I would expect an exhaust valve to end...

Re: Eddie Marine

NEVER buy any of their press on pulleys, though...

I bought a set of EMI pulleys for my HP500, as there was rust on a few of my old ones, and I thought the added bling would be nice. I bought a...

Re: Hp500 Oil Temp

I assume you are running crossovers, MOS.

Running a water thermostat and the Merc Racing pressure relief valve did the trick for me!

I have been running it for about a year now.
My setup:...

Re: Supercharging a 500 EFI

Whipple has apparently had a hard time delivering product.

I vote for a Whipple with a F.A.S.T. computer, running closed loop!!

Open loop sugs! I have a hard time believing that Merc even does...

Re: Milky oil, only after hard runs???

Perfectmix, are you running a thermostat?
If so, did you drill 3-4 3/16" holes in them for steam venting?
If so, are you running a pressure relief valve?

If you are running a thermostat without...

Re: steering problems?

The drive really should not move at all. Even with the stock steering system, the drive should not move a discernable amount when pushing and pulling side to side on the drive. Before I added full...

Re: steering problems?

Could be the gimbal, like these guys are saying.

Check for slop in the drive. Grab it and give it a shove. If there is slop, check the top of the gimbal. There is a u-bolt that might be loose. If...

Re: Oh great gurus of OSO ... Info on 1999 7.4L MPI 310HP Mrec black motors???

I would be more concerned with that many hours in salt on the rest of the system.

I had a 7.4mpi. Very reliable.

The biggest problems that I know and heard about from salt are the corrosion of...

You torqued props down?

When your torque wrench went clicka-clicka, what did you do to align the punch down washer thingies?

Re: Anyone know the belt size for my 500hp?

If you don't have the old belt, then just take a strong string or thin rope, set the adjustment for a little more than half way in, and wrap the string around the pulleys. Tie a knot and then see if...

Re: who sells raw water pressure releif valves

Hi Fred:
What bothers me is that the spec sheet you just posted shows an initial flow at just 7psi, and full flow at 35psi... 35 psi is far too high, and flowing at 7psi reduces volume at lower...

Most tend to...

Re: Crate Motors

PM Kidnova, if you are thinking about 502 crate motors...

MUCH more to it than bolting it in, but it can be done.
