Re: seawater/fuel pump on Gen VI w/ serpentine setup

Don't know if it helps, but I upgraded my 454's to serpentine belts last year. The seawater pumps with the fuel pump boss had the same bolt battern as the pump without the fuel pump provision. They...

Re: High Volume Oil Pump

If the drop isn't related to temp, I'd look at the pressure sender/guage before anything else.

Re: Could not find the thread..

Just wondering if anyone has had experience with this pressure switch, holly part hly-12-810. I tried to hook mine up over the weekend. The normally closed side of the switch opens when the oil...

Re: Oil pressure is 80 -100 psi, Is this OK

My bro-in-law has a newer 454 with a high volume pump that runs at 80psi all day long on conventional 20/50. I would say the 50 psi you were seeing before the change was questionable. Was your...

Re: Could not find the thread..

Very cool! That's exactly what I was looking for! I'd rather have a tee for the alarm switch than have the wiring for an external relay. I think the current draw issue on the ignition circuit can...

Re: Could not find the thread..

Hi Nordic, about the holley part... Found it on summit (thanks!), but can't find a wiring diagram. The description on summit seems to imply it has a relay built in, and you wire it to your solenoid...

Re: water found in oil, any hope for engine?

Ok, this is sounding more encouraging than I thought. Anyone know the name of the milkshake-scum dissolving oil additive? Is this something we could pick up at a westmarine/boaus?

water found in oil, any hope for engine?

My buddy changed his engine oil the other day, it looked like a chocolate milkshake. Probably a leaky riser, and its probably been going on since the beginning of the season. The current plan is to...

Re: electric fuel pump automatic shutoff?

I actually regret making the switch, I may just switch back. The problem with the belt driven pumps is that they failed every other season. I bought the boat spring 2002, it was 4 yrs old. At that...

electric fuel pump automatic shutoff?

I just switched over to electric fuel pumps on my carb'ed merc 330's. Had recurring problems with the belt driven mechanical pumps, they failed every two years, and thought this conversion would...

Re: Help on custom fuel lines

Hey thanks for all the advise! For now, I'm going to go with steel lines with the pre-fab internal flares. That will get me in the water anyway, and USCG approved. I would definately prefer...

Help on custom fuel lines

I'm in tubing hell... Trying to put an electric fuel pump on my engine, need a hard line from the pump to the carb. Bought the double flaring tool, bender, bender springs, thought this would be a...

Re: Not a performance boat but need ideas

Make sure you check the hp rating on your transmissions!! I have a similar boat and have from time to time considered making minor 'improvements'. That was until I learned my hurth v-drives are...

oid pan problems.

I'm in the midst of replacing a 1998 merc 454 and discovered my stock, steel, oil pan is toast. Replacing with a pan from merc seems pretty expensive ($370!) and probably not what I want anyway...

thunderbolt ignition with vortec heads

Hi,
I'm looking for a replacement for a merc 7.4. The engine I have now is a 1997 with the gen VI block with Mark V heads. I've found a couple sources for rebuilt engines, and the cost difference...

Re: stuck hydraulic lifters - help!

When I say the valve comes off its seat, I mean the lifter doesn't compress at all, so when the rocker's are tightened down, the effect is that the valve opens.
No the heads weren't shaved. The...

Re: stuck hydraulic lifters - help!

Thanks, I hope it's that simple. I had tried to compress one of these by hand before disassembling it, probably put a 100lbs on it and it wasn't budging, and I did crank the engine with the lifters...

Re: machine shop north/west of boston?

These are the Mark V heads (casting 10114156), with about 600 hrs. I'm not an expert, but when I finally got them off yesterday and got a good look, I'd say they'll need signicant work done (as in...

Re: Tricks for rounded off head bolt?

Thanks for all the advice. Here's an update... Heat and liberal 'pounding' had no effect in this particular instance, though a good suggestion in general. I bought a set of the craftsman...
