I found a good place and last time I had my boat in there I spoke to the mechanic I like and asked if he does anything on the side and that I'm looking at doing some work over the winter...... hoping...

While they have the drive off, make sure they check the drive alignment and while they are at it, the gimble steering pins to assure they are tight to spec. Make sure when they are done, you get it...

I'd pull the drive and check the gimble bearing, universal, drive shaft and inspect the coupler for starters. I just had to replace my starboard coupler..... so I know what you mean..... hopefully...
