The late mpi's came with electric fuel pump (I'm talking regular fuel pump not the high pressure...

I'm with Edward. Anybody ever actually seen a reverse MPI engine !!
I personally own a carb c/r and I've seen lots of other carb c/r motors but never an injected engine.

Concerning the 1.88 and 1.91 trans ONLY:

You are saying that you had to order from the factory whichever rotation you needed and what came from the factory was not reversible with a pump...

Yes Up until about 10 years ago, counter rotation in an inboard or vdrive situation was achieved with c/r engines.
I don't know about sterndrive but I suspect that sterndrive and...

My info from the New Orleans bunch and JK at Runsnew is that the 71/72 series can be set to accept standard rotation and output reverse...

I think the proplem is solved and heres the story for enyone interested:

The Gen VI C/R engines available today are true C/R engines. By this I mean that not only does the crank rotate oppositely...

Thats exactly what I had planned until this forum explained that it was possiblr to do a reverse mpi. Cost is the motivator. I already own c/r 454's with c/r borg-warner trannies. My motor...

if the merc mpi is a batch system, does anybody know the order for the batch firing?
also, these engines will be installed on an angle in an inboard boat. will mpi work installed like this?

Thanks for the info but if you go to 1800runsnew, they sell a 502 already setup for c/r. I assume this includes cam,etc..
Would you agree?

Heres the deal:
1- I am replacing inboard 340 mie, 20 yrs old.
2- they were counter rotating engines
3- I would like to go back with 502-415's...
