if this is a volvo pump im suprised,,those pimps kick A$$..
also check the impeller to make sure its locked on to the shaft,also make sure its not broke away from where its molded to.

the volvo impellers are soft and will be easy to move..remove the hoses @ the rear of the engine and have a friend start the engine and put your hand over the suction hose to feel if it is...
