The Richmond Power Boat club is so sad to hear of the loss of two of our boating extended family. Our thoughts are with there families and friends.
Such a beautyful day and such a sad end to it.
Rest in Peace.

One dead, one missing after boat capsizes
By A Sun Staff Writer
Originally published March 1, 2004

A Pasadena man died and a second man was missing yesterday after a high-performance racing boat capsized in the Chesapeake Bay about three miles east of Gibson Island, authorities said.

A witness told authorities that the men were traveling in the 40-foot Tomahawk jet-drive craft at a high speed near the Craig Island Channel about 2:30 p.m. when it became airborne and flipped, according to a spokeswoman for the Department of Natural Resources.

Maryland Natural Resources Police, the U.S. Coast Guard, a dive team from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and a police helicopter responded and began a search for the two men.

A short time later, dive team members recovered from the partially submerged vessel the body of the person apparently driving the boat, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Matthew Simmons.

Simmons said the victim was strapped in by a safety harness.

The search for the second man was called off at nightfall and will continue early today, Simmons said.

Authorities withheld the names of the men pending notification of family members.

As most of you know, we had a similar incident in Tampa Bay a short while ago. All our hearts go out to those involved and their families.

If this is a bit of comfort for those concerned, it was not the Extreme boat from Turkey Point Marina...I just spoke to the Marina and all is well....We'll keep the others in prayer...

Sounds like they were taking precautions, too ("...safety harness"). Such a shame. My heartfelt condolences go out the victims friends, family, and loved ones.

Information released this morning by Maryland Natural Resources Police.

The body of Edwin J. Mosmiller, Jr., age 52 of Pasadena was recovered last night. Mr. Mosmiller's body was discovered inside the partially capsized vessel.

Next of kin notification was made late last night. Natural Resources Police are continuing to search today for Roger B. Madden, age 42, also of Pasadena.

Further detail from the release: The boat was traveling Sunday afternoon at approximately 2:30 p.m., described as a 40-foot long high performance race boat from Pasadena at a high rate of speed, according to an eyewitness, when the vessel became airborne and began flipping over.

Natural Resources Police is continuing the search today, with assistance from agencies including the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Maryland State Police.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

I didn't want to speculate but from the description, it sounded like Ed's boat. I've known him for a long time as a friendly face at the boat shows and poker runs. A true gentleman. Very sad.
