It's time for looking for where we going to boating for the summer family vacation..(last of July and first of August)......we are 7 boat ...and we suppose to launch boat at Haverstraw NY on the Hudson River.....and go down until Manhattan...but after that ......we don't know wich side to go ......

Delaware Bay ..with the Intracoastal and ....Long Beach island....Atlantic City....and Wildwood.....

Or

Long Island Sound ....with Port Jeff, Northport, Stamford, Eaton's Neck, Lloyds Neck, Norwalk Islands, Plum Gut, The Race, Sand Hole, Shelter Island, Sag Harbor, Shinnecock Inlet, Peconic Bay, Montauk, Block Island, Newport, Martha's, Nantucket, Block Island Sound

Feel free to help us for the choice .....what we need is a place for our children to be able swiming on the hot summer day's....(quality of the water)....and the ability to made reservation at some marina....and some nice thing to see....i am sure you will help us ....

Thank's again for your opinion... and hope to take some beer with you on the dock !!!!!

Delaware Bay ..with the Intracoastal and ....Long Beach island....Atlantic City....and Wildwood.....

The kids will love the Boardwalks, and there are a few. Ocean City, Atlantic City, Wildwood. (all have boardwalks with games and rides)

Trumps has the absolute best Marina in the Tri-State area for transient docking and when you get a slip you are allowed to use the hotel ammenities.

You can make it from Lady Liberty in a few hours via the Ocean. If conditions are rough you can pick up the ICW along the way.
Dont forget the Cape May beaches and the delaware river. Tons of destinations with Atlantic City as your port. etc...

If your in the area of LI Sound, I would check out the Great South Bay and all the areas around there. Fire Island is a great place, cruise around the Hamptons and if you get a good day head out from Montauk and get over and see Block Island. Im sure the Delaware Bay is a nice area, but I have expierienced the trip I just explained and it was a blast

LIS, I've done both the Chesapeake and LIS, both are among the best boating areas in the nation. I'd lean towards the east end of LIS, Shelter Island, Sag Harbor, Montauk, etc.

Eastern LI sound, and Fire Island.
How many days will you be running and how long in each port do you like to stay?

I boat regularly on LIS and have boated down by Wildwood & Atlantic City....Both are Great places to boat so either way you'll have a great time. Personally I think the kids would have a better time in Wildwood/Ocean City, etc, with all the rides and things to do there. But if you want to spend more time boating and less time running around, I would do LIS.

I'd go the NJ route, not because I live down here, but because of the kids. As was said above, there are plenty of places on your way down with rides, games, water parks, and boardwalks.

Once you get out to eastern LI sound, the water is clean.
With the kids, you should spend a day or two at Fire Island, then from there you can run West back to NYC.
Fire Island has no cars, and is a great place for kids!!! Awsome beaches.

Greenport... Townsend Manor Inn. 93octane. good pool and a walk to town. Town has a carousel w/ brass ring. Greenport is classic East End w/o the pretensiosness(sp?) of Hamptons.

If you do LI sound run, here's how i'd do it.
Run and stay the connecticut side running east.
1. Essex CT - 1nite
2. Mystic CT (seaport) - 1nite
3. Newport (big homes from turn o' the century). 1-2 nite
4. Marthas Vinyard... Edgartown is the place to stay (Jaws filmed there!) 1-2nite
5. Back west to Block Island 1-2 nite
6. Montauk... 1 nite
7. Greenport 1-2 nite (can go to shelter island and Sag harbor from there.
8. Run from Greenport, thru the Shinnecock Canal and run the outside to Fire Island.
9. Fire Island for 2 nites.
10 Head West, come in Jones Beach, have lunch in Freeport or @ Paddy Magees or Jordans Lobster. Run back out of East Rockaway Inlet to the city.

Should be a great managable trip.
Every day should be 3hrs, or much less on the boat.
Sorry, I've got no pics.

BTw.. how old are the kids you'll be with?
