Default Pre-Race Report Offshore Super Series – Budweiser Select Offshore Racing

Biloxi, Miss. (March 15, 2007) – It’s that time of year again and the 2006 National Champions – the Budweiser Select Offshore Race Team – are back in action. ‘Smokin’ the Sound 2007’ kicks off this year’s Offshore Super Series (OSS) season, with the Budweiser Select 44’ MTI Extreme boat ready for another exciting year in the OSS Extreme Boat class. Owner/Driver Dave Scott and crew have worked hard in the winter months to prepare for an earlier start to the season.

“We made numerous enhancements to the boat and engines,” said Scott, a native of Edwardsville, Ill. “We
worked on the Extreme Boat to improve the handling characteristics at high speeds. This is also something
we continue to look at and adjust as the season moves forward. We also worked on enhancing the reliability
of the engines.”

The 2006 season was a successful one for the Budweiser Select Offshore Team, but there were a few bumps
in the road, as the engines seemed finicky. Scott, along with engine builder Sterling Performance, has worked hard and will continue to do so to reach their main goal this year.

“We really want to go undefeated,” Scott explained. “The races we lost last year were because of engine reliability. We put a lot of emphasis on that this year and certainly expect better results, even though 2006 was a good year.”

In 2006, Scott and crew won their ninth National Championship on Lake Mead in Las Vegas, Nev. They
also brought home the checkered flag in seven regular season races. The team won their class at the Lake
Rescue shootout with a speed of 178 mph and took second at the OSS World Championships in Destin, Fla.

2005 was the second year of ‘Smokin’ the Sound’ and the inaugural points run for the retired 40’ MTI Super Cat. Scott and throttleman Johnny Tomlinson finished second in that race and will use the experience as motivation to improve this year with the 44’ MTI Extreme Boat. Conditions could be tough
however, as the course can be very challenging.

“Last year was an exciting race,” Scott explained. “It is a very high speed course because of the long straightaway behind the casinos (Casino Row). Handling will be our main concern because the course is so narrow and we will be running at much faster speeds than the last time we were there (2005).”

With speeds topping out at more than 140 mph in 2005, some may think it doesn’t get much faster… but it does. With two 1500 HP Sterling Performance Engines on the Extreme Boat, Scott believes fans could see speeds in excess of 180 mph on the straightaway this year.

“Both the conditions of the course and the channel itself can prove challenging,” Scott continued. “Since (Hurricane) Katrina passed through, the course could have changed, and it was already very narrow. Boats passing each other going in opposite directions at those speeds can be a concern. We are just ready to go down there and see what we have to work with.”

Scott also emphasized how glad he is to be going back to an area so greatly affected by Hurricane Katrina.

“We are glad to be going back to Biloxi and we would love to see a good turn out for the race,” Scott concluded. “We hope the entire region enjoys having us back. Hopefully it will be uplifting and encouraging for everyone to see an event like this return. And we want the people of Biloxi and the
surrounding areas to realize their efforts to rebuild and restore have not been in vain.”

Festivities for ‘Smokin’ the Sound 2007’ begin March 22 as race village opens at 9 a.m. Fans can meet the race teams at the Imperial Palace Sports Bar at 6 p.m. March 23. Qualifying begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, and official race action begins Sunday, March 25 at 11 a.m.

The Dave Scott Budweiser Select Offshore Race Team is one of the most successful offshore race teams in history, having earned seven world championships and nine national championship titles since 2001. The team is also the proud owner of six offshore speed records. Dave Scott and throttleman Johnny Tomlinson have more than 32 years of combined experience in offshore powerboat racing.

Budweiser Select, launched nationally in February 2005, is a new kind of beer brewed longer for a bold taste that finishes clean. Budweiser Select boasts a unique full-bodied flavor with light beer statistics that appeal to sophisticated beer drinkers.

Based in St. Louis, Anheuser-Busch is the leading American brewer, holding a 48.4 percent share of U.S. beer sales. The company brews the world’s largest-selling beers, Budweiser and Bud Light. Anheuser-Busch ranked No. 1 among beverage companies in FORTUNE Magazine’s Most Admired U.S. Companies list in 2007. Anheuser-Busch is one of the largest theme park operators in the United States, is a major
manufacturer of aluminum cans and one of the world’s largest recyclers of aluminum cans.
