Default Any Info On 303 SR1 with Blackhawks

I have ran across a 1995 303 Sr1 with 502's and blackhawk drives. If anyone has any experience with these please let us hear the good or bad. Am very curious to the performance and reliability of the drives.

I sold one to a good customer several years ago. The only problem we had was breaking the speedo on it. It was the only boat that once you had it on plane, boat trim for speed, you could hammer it and the speedo looked like a STOP WATCH!! The guy kept it for over ten years and traded it to me for a 400SS Diesel boat. I had this boat less than 3 days and sold it again,(made one of my techs mad cause he wanted it real bad) and the new owner is in love with it. The one think I noticed it was real picky on trim. The boat will tell you how much for the speed you are going, to far and the boat will slow down! The boat when you have it hooked up looks like a bass boat throwing a rooster tail thats way cool!

Remember a story on a 303/BH. One was sold retail at the Miami Show,The Formula Rep agreed to deliver it a long way along the Intracoastal, which was a lot of no wake/Idle speed only. Boat was so fast at idle and made such a wake that he was stopped every few miles and he had to explain he was doing the best he could. After about 5 stops he pleaded with the officer that he would be late for the delivery if he kept getting pulled over. The officer radioed ahead to let him thru,as he was idling the best he could.Sometimes hi tech stuff is not so good in the real world.

Hey Magicfloat, I remember this customer told me about running along at about 30MPH and a 33 Outlaw wanted to get it on. When the 303 drop the hammer and once it hit about 70MPH , he looked back and seen the Outlaw dead in the water. He turn around to check on the Outlaw and as he came along side of him the driver of the Outlaw hollered at him "What the h*** you got in that thing, you took off like someone shot you out of a gun!"

All of this sounds like it maybe a sleeper, does anyone know if these drives are reliable in real world use.

My customer did maintain the boat well. Drive service every 50 hrs or once a year. Engine service every 25 hrs. (he was a freak about clean oil) and made sure the props had no damage anytime. We did not have any problems that I know of in the years that he owned the boat.

A few years ago Merc found about 25 Blackhawk drives, brand new in a warehouse, offered them to the dealer network cheap, just to clear them out,for something like $850 Wish I had bought a few.Reliability is not a problem,a friend has a 2150 Stryker maybe 12-13 years of hard use, never an issue.

I've never seen one on a Formula. Most of them I've seen were on 22 Donzis, and some of those guys are scared to death of them. The wildest BH set up I saw, was a 38 Scrab with TRIP 502's and BH drives.
