so how can you expect a cam recommendation if you don't tell us anything about what it is going in, how you plan to use it, what your expectations are, where you wish to focus trade-offs, and what maintenance schedule you are comfortable with?

you want a cam suggestion on nothing more than a flow sheet?
Okay, how about this one?

Looks good to me. All the lumpy bits are in about the right place.

I thought I posted more than just a flow sheet
The Boat is a 1993 Checkmate 230 Enforcer
Gen VI block 4.5" bore 509 cu. in.
JE pistons 8.8:1 compression ratio
Stock rods with ARP bolts
Stock crank turned .10 .10

2.25 intake and 1.90 inconnel exhaust valves
Crane Gold roller rocker arms
Morel lifters

Keith Eickert exhaust manifolds.
The advertised weight of the boat is 3200 pounds
My expectations are to make over 500hp reliably.
I could probably give up a little bottom end as this is a relatively light boat. I'm comfortable with any maintenance schedule necessary

What the heck happened to the free exchange of information that used to be so representative of OSO. This guy, on a limited budget, in the true spirit of the hobby comes seeking the help of the members of the board. He even goes as far as to SCAN the flow sheet on his heads and list in detail 90% of the pertinent information required for an evaluation. For his efforts he gets ridiculed into submission by a member I used to respect highly, 3 newbies who think their being cool to grovel for acceptance, and one that knows a sum total of 2 alphanumeric combinations (731/741).

Well said, I couldn’t agree more. The information provided was accurate and certainly enough to begin to respond to the question originally posted by Boatally Insane. The few details that were omitted could have been addressed with far less effort than it took to embarrass him in a public forum. It’s not about big cams/small cams; it’s about getting the most from what HE has to meet HIS needs and goals. Those goals might include meeting his performance requirements with the correct “lumpy bits”. Boatally came here respectfully requesting information, assistance and direction of the members of the board more experienced than him in these areas. If the question is too trivial to warrant expert advice, why respond at all?
