Default Fiberglass fuel tanks?

Are there resins that can hold up to fuel/ethanol? Does Skater still use fiberglass tanks?

Traditional fiberglass tanks can not be used for gasoline with ethanol added. It is not the fiberglass, but rather the resin that is the problem. The ethanol acts like a 'solvent' and softens / dissolves the resin.

Douglas Marine (Skater) has been using 'ethanol' save tanks for a number of years now. If you have a Skater, with tanks in question, call them and ask Chris or Peter about your tanks.

In a retro fix you can go with aluminum tanks, bladder cell type tanks, or redo the existing tanks with two part epoxy or something like XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene). Do not use LDPE or HDPE, as these materials tend to absorb and swell over time.

Many others here at OSO know way more about this, and can offer great information, advise and personal experience.

There are also many other threads with great info on this subject.
