compare the ride of the 36 Skater to the new-style 32 Skater
Hi guys,
I've got a standard 2003 32 Skater, the first year of the newer style (deeper) 32.
I have never driven a 36 Skater and I am wondering how it compares to my 32.
I ask because I also have a 2008 30' Skater, the first year of that boat. And the 30 Skater rides NOTHING like the 32. The 30 Skater is airborne most of the time and it seems to get frustrated into being airborne if it goes across even the slightest chop. I find it very difficult to drive the 30 fast across any kind of rough water.
My 32, on the other hand, seems to ride pretty flat. Not a lot of front-end lift. It's a beast in the rough stuff. The front end *always* comes back down. It never gets airborne and it can take all the speed you throw at it.
How does the 36 Skater ride?

Not sure that answers my question but I've got twin 3.2 XS Stroker outboards on the 30' and twin 300X outboards on the 32. I am aware that outboards is not exactly the right way to set up the 32 but that's how it was done on this particular boat with its special transom.

Both boats had a top end of about 136 MPH with those engines. But the 32 got there a lot faster. It really accelerated hard with that minimum HP. I had to stretch the 36 much longer for that same top end number.
I live on Lake Lanier in Georgia and the weekend water is pretty sloppy. The 36 handles bigger water better. I launch off 3 - 4 footers at 100+ and it flys level. I got more bow rise off the same sized waves in the 32. I couldn't drive the 32 as agressively, although it handled really well in smaller water.
The CG in the 36 is right about under the drivers seat. It was further back in the 32 so I was always more careful in rougher water and launching off waves. With the 36, that extra 4 feet of length, 1 foot of beam, and extra weight serves you well in rougher water. But that 32 was a rocket ship and handled slop much better than any other 32 foot boat I've been in.
Sometimes I think I'd like to get another 32 and put 1,000 - 1,100 HP in it. I'm guessing the acceleration would be pretty awesome. What motors do you have in your 32?

I have a 36 and had a 32B before that. I transferred the motors from the 32 to the 36 when I had the 36 built originally(775 HP). Both boats had #6 dry sump drives.

I call my 30 the rocketship and the 32 the cadillac. Funny how the boats don't accelerate quote as fast as they get even slightly larger.
My 1988 21' skater (original owner) is the real rocketship. 105 mph with merc's last 2.5 offshore outboard (the 300 hp crank motor). Tree is no machine air, land, or sea more fun than that thing.
