i have not done any body work i have been focused on getting power in it. but yea i had to pull back seet out and suck the tanks dry . put the motors in it and wired everything to a mercury wire harness. it never had one. the boat , i was told was always slung off the trailer so i had to make a stop for front of trailer. but i going to the water tomorrow i am really excited to see how it runs. there is still alot to do to bring her back around to look top notch , going to paint it, paint trailer, new carpit those are the main things for right now. then just little things to top it off

He meant the tanks needed to be replaced. The ethanol in fuel made/is making all the fiberglass tanks soft. You may want to check yours...

Yes it is! Glad I took my 28 to Skater in 2008 before Ethanol hit the pumps here.

now that i look at my drive again i dont think they are #5s how can i tell what they are ?? i was told when i bought the boat they had number 5 internals with the big shafts for the props i have the serial numbers off the drive. is there a web site i can go to to find out what they are??

My buddy has the same boat with twin 580hp with number 5's and the boat rund 110 every day. He doesnt have the right props or gear ratio.

i dont know what my gear ratio is lol or prop size this boat been sittin for a long time i cant get the props off of it

and no one knows where i can type in my serial number on the drives and it will tell me or some how let me know what size they are ??

They should be SSM-5 or 5A. From what I recall, none of the 5 and 5A internals will go into a SSM-3 and 4. If they are the big shafts, internals are 5A. Strange that Merc can't find anything from a drive serial number.

that boat i was the throtle man for when it was eastern express, it hat 2 small blocks making 700 hp each 6900 rpm with 1.68 gear drives ( drives #4 with large shafts) best speed with a 17 1/2 x 31- 3 blade prop was 115 to 120 4 blade 17 x 29 was 115 that was form our records
