Default Lower Unit Work

This is what we started with for today's work!

Boat had some water pressure issues with hull pickups. After inspection and talking with Rob we decided to increase the inlet to 16AN up from 12AN. However due to the amount of room around the where the fitting was tapped we stayed with 1/2" pipe into the pump housing. DId some additonal grinding to smooth the flow in the gear case and also drilled out the 12AN another 1/8" all around. Should be close to a 14AN.

Also Thanks to Todd Defillips over on S&F for providing 4seal drive shaft seal and new double shift shaft seal. Really nice pieces at very resonable price. If you guys need any let me know.

Also installed bulkhead fittings 16AN thanks to Jerry at Stainless Marine in S FL. First class job.

Lastly made custom white plexi 45 degree wedges for rig tube adaptors. The way they were installed it limited tilting of motor and pull on cables/hose's when turning hard over. Made more of a straight shot and increase tilt. Lastly added new 2" rig tubes to replace spiral wrap.

Congratulations on your new 30 nice boat on the low water pick-up why not feed the supply line into the 3/4 pipe thread on the exhaust plate?

Previous owner tried it and did not get good results. Also the holes in the lower unit have been completely sealed up. If you were to use the exhaust plate no water would make it to the pump and at idle speeds no flow.
Reworking what was already there. There are fittings there too. I am sure I will end up trying different things as time goes on to see what works best.

My 28 was rigged with hull mounted pick-ups with ball valves and shut-off valves and plumbed into the exhaust plate with the gearcase water-pump still functioning never worked right in the rough but 20-25 lbs. in flat water, when I took it apart the ball valves and most of the aluminum fittings where heavily corroded. With the re-rig im going back to stock gear-case feed only., Good luck with your set-up!

Sweet Boat and nice rigging changes!

Can you post a picture of the external water pickups that are installed on the boat?

Thanks!
Don

Man that hull looks clean! It's reassuring to buy something from someone who loved it. My 1989 looked new when I bought it from Tim Hunter.
