thats an extra 400 + pounds of leverage hanging off the transom, I'm sure that will upset the CG and not sure why anyone would want one , super heavy and 70 % more crap to go wrong and just wait till you have to rebuild , my buddy going through that right now on a 275 .

SIMPLE 2 STROKES AS IN 300 X EFI

What is involved in 400R maintenance? - Valve adjustment? - Supercharger?- Valves? - What else? - What is the rebuild/maintenance schedule? Just interested. I learned the hard way many times on my 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke race bikes! $$$$$$$

Probably more complicated but don't knock it till you've tried it. Ask Ron as he's driven both. Mine climbs pretty good up to about 110. After that it is a bit of a waiting game but its definitely worth it from my perspective. If I had a current boat and was looking at a rerig it would be a tough choice to make but a new purchase would be no brainer. The additional amount to upgrade doesn't seem that bad when you look at the whole picture.

I am not knocking it! I absolutely love your boat! I would power a 30 with 400's in a heartbeat!

From what I have seen only people with deep pockets are drinking the cool-aid , I'm sure they are great but @ 668 each and the rest of us poor people will cry like a baby when its rebuild time or as in the demographic that is buying them can afford to buy new when they break . Bottom line way to heavy , way too much $ and anyone who knows anything mechanical , less parts internally makes sense

Hasn't it been proven that a cat with 300xs is not slower and not worth the heavy investment and I mean heavy four stroke !!$$$$

Larry
There is about a 12-15mph difference between the 300xs powered boat versus the 400r's. However the difference with a pair of 300x motors is far less.
With having the option of 4 years warranty I do not think anyone is worried about rebuilding them. I have a friend who ran the 350hp verados on his 34' Fountain and put over 400hrs on them with no issues.

A 32' is a good fit for these motors. Just need to plan it right and do your homework for the CG.

The big end number may not be a big difference between 300x and 400R but, would you say getting there is much quicker with the 400Rs?

Hey Larry
I am curious if you had your boat ever rigged and in the water ? If so what did you get for performance with what engines?
Thanks

From what I have read TOM the difference in speed is not that big and and some cases slower because of the extra 200 lbs and larger sportmaster bullet smart ass . Well documented ! I think they are great if you have the 25 k per but for the do it your selfer F. UCK that . 300x are dirt cheap and simple

Wow where did all the attitudes come from. I built my first boat after selling my wrecked motorcycle at 18 in my driveway. My mother thought boats would be safer than bikes lol. I borrowed the molds after making a deal to clean and wax them with the owner. I rigged it and installed a borrowed 65 HP Merc outboard with a two Blade bronze prop because I could not afford a motor.

Since then I have built modified or bought and sold a ton of boats. It's a great hobby and I love working on them as much as running them. I have had 2.4s 2.5s 300Xs 300XS amoung other motors. If someone myself included wants to spend their hard earned money on 400Rs great for them. If someone has the time and wants to wrench a 300X great for them. That's what makes this so much fun. Neither way makes someone smarter or superior to the other so get off the soap box and go have fun because that what I plan to do with my boat until I find the next one to work on.
