Here's a stupid story: For years I've farmed out my paint work on my boats and I own a bodyshop/ paintshop. Silly me.
And then I woke up and said "let's open a custom boat painting company". Build it and they shall come. I was right.
Today's paint jobs on custom built boats aren't just a few stripes down the side. They are individual ideas and colors that each owner designs and uses to compliment the balance of their boats. It's time consuming and not profitable for a manufacturer. Outsourcing elimates the headache and allows the manufacturer to focus on what they do best: manufacturing or building boats.
Other than the production manufactuers, i.e. Baja, Fountain, Formula, most smaller, custom builders use outside graphics/ paint companies. It is an easy way to control the spread sheet.
Hope this helps! Pat
