Default 358 Speeds with 525's

Curious if anyone has experience with a 358 equipped with 525's. I would like to know the speeds that can be expected (no exaggerating) and also any comments on porpoising.

As far as speed with 525's I am not 100% sure but I run a 2002 358 with 575's (550hp at the prop) ........last season was my 1st with the boat and with about 200 gallons of gas, five people, 2 coolers, frig full, beach chairs, etc, etc, and a set of 30 pitch props I should be ashamed of.....I was able to hit 79mph GPS. I will have new props this year and I hope to see low 80's with a loaded boat.
Now the second question reguarding Porpoising..... Yes the hull does tend to Porpoise if you don't trim properly....Over one season (50hrs) I have become familiar with its tendancies and just trim the drives and lower the tabs a little to keep her smooth. I forget exactly around what speed because it is February but some where around 30mph you feel the boat take set while on top of the water and you can raise the tabs and trim out till your hearts content....... The 358 is not the fastest boat out there and has been called the bastard child because of the porpoise but as far as cabin space, quality, distinct looks, etc, etc I think it's a great boat.............

We had a 2001 358 with 500efi's and ran a solid 79mph. I know of a 2004 358 (Viper7)with 525's running hydromotive p5x's that is running around 82.
Here's Johnny-the P5x's helped the 2004 with the porpoise. On our 2001 I ran bravo 28's-(stock).

Thanks much for the info. This is exactly what I was interested in knowing. I agree with you Here's Johnny, the 358 is a good combination.....performance and amenities. The cabin is great.

Sounds like you should try those P5x's. With the HP you have, and the numbers NJSonic posted, you should at least be in the low 80's.

Thanks again for the info.

H20.....Yes I should definatly be in the low to mid 80's.....I will see this season with the new props...like I said the props were in bad shape, they each had two different repair numbers stamped on them and still looked like s**t. I will try to make a few runs with no gear and less then half load of fuel....... with a baby due in March I think I might have a few early morning solo runs this year....... I will let you know what I see.........
