Sonic Booom II 31SS
Question Fast speeds in a 31ss

I have a 99 31SS and am repowering with quite a bit more power. I don't have shorties or anything trick (to speak of) and was wondering how fast you have been with your 31SS and how is the handling at those speeds? Say 90-100mph? I measured my X-dimension and if I am correct, it sure would benefit from shorties, but I can't afford them right now.... maybe in the winter. I have been real close to 80mph with the old power and it was handling well IMO.

575's bumped up a bit (650ish?) and -2" shorties and lots of dialling in ran around 98-99 gps. I think it got a little loose at that speed. They are very stable up to around 85, then start to loosen up. I haven't driven one past the low 80's myself. Just repeating what I've read and heard.

I'm not looking to set the world on fire or re-invent the wheel.... the new motors are shaping up to be pretty stout. Maybe somewhere in the low 700's. I don't do alot of high speed blasting, more cruising speed.... but it would be nice to cruise at 65 or better with an occasional blast.

I was just curious how this hull does at higher speeds and what has been done to achieve some sort of compromise between top MPH and handling.

2003 Sonic 31ss w/ 575's
We run 575's with super chillers... thats about 650HP... motor is 550 then additional 100 from the super chillers. The best we've seen is 92 mph.... dont like to wind it out too much... but the boat handled great! No chine walk and felt very connected.
