Default Austin Anyone?

Just moved to Austin and trying to get a feel for the lake situation around here. I went to Travis yesterday and it looks pretty nice. Can anyone give me a feel for what the lakes are like in this area. We have a place on LOTO but it looks like I'll be spending most of my summer down here.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff. I live in the Austin area, and coincidentally also have a place at LOTO. Lake Travis is a great lake, and closest to Austin. Lake Buchanan and LBJ are also reasonably close, are nice bodies of water, and popular. What type of boat do you have, and what do you like to do when out on the water? Hope to meet you soon. David

There is also Lake Canyon about an hour south, very scenic.
If you went out on Travis yesterday we probably saw you ,
I didnt go out but we were
working on my deck and have a great view of the lake.
It was a nice day to be out.

Thanks for the quick response guys. I'm really enjoying this weather and love that I'll be able to keep the boat out longer. I'll be bringing a 09 Baja 277 Islander down sometime in early spring. With so many different lakes close by I'm trying to decided between renting a slip (if so, which lake & which marina) or using the trailer for the first summer here. Using the trailer might be the better option as it allows me to see the different areas.

Can you guys recommend any marinas on Lake Travis? We mostly like to relax on the water, tie up with a few enjoyable people & ocasionally hit a few bars. This will be a little different than LOTO, since there we have our own dock.

I just stopped by Emerald Point yesterday to grab a beer and check it out. What kind of boats to you guys have? What is the typical boat for Lake Travis?

Thanks Again,

Jeff

Travis has all kinds of boats. Small to big. There are marina's on every corner of the lake. What part of Austin do you live in? Places to eat on the lake are Carlos n Charlie, Shadys, The Pier, Johnny Finn, & Cafe Blue. There are others that I have not listed. There are many coves to tie up and float. Devil's cove is the big one everyone parties at. Lake will be dead until March.

Also check out the poker runs on Lake Travis http://ltpa.net/
the photo album will give show many of the local boaters who attend the runs and frequent the party places.
and as was stated above the Lake pretty much is dead during winter.
I love going out because its like having the lake to yourself but
not much to do because most bars/restaurants close up until march.
Shades is already closed for the season and The Pier will be soon.
Carlos and Charlies is about the only place that stays open but on a reduced shedule.
