Powerboating Near Dallas and Austin?

All,
Have a 38' Fountain Lightning. Wondering what lakes are close that people boat at near Dallas?

Same question with Austin.. does Lake Travis have similar sized boats?

Boat runs mid 90's per hour..any lake restrictions on speed?

Texoma lake

Austin

I've done almost all my boating on Lake Cumberland in KY and Lake Erie Michigan.. how do these compare?

TxHawk 01-22-2017 07:46 PM

Hard to compare. Texoma is a big lake with open water and sandy beaches. Travis is long. Both have there share of powerboats and some significant ones at that. Lewisville is for amateurs and strippers.

I've been around Texoma for 20 years.

DFW lakes really are not the greatest for boating period especially for any High performance boats or anything over 70 mph - Texoma and Possum Kingdom I would suggest or just boat down in the Austin area.

I'm from there and now boat on cumberland. DO NOT waste your time on lake lewisville. You will want to shoot yourself at all the horrible boating that goes on there. Possum Kingdom is nice, Lake Travis is nice. Lake Texoma at one time had a good powerboat scene. They had a zebra mussel issue awhile back so not sure how that situation is these days. When it has water in it or not flooded its a neat place with all the sand islands. I'm with BUP on those three. don't waste your time on the others.

If you ever want to get a laugh for hours - go down to Joe Pool lake and sit close by the boat ramp on a busy Saturday. Not saying I do everything perfect in life but many who boat at Joe Pool really should never own a boat. I think I have seen everything at that lake from an all out brawl to tow vehicles back down going completely underwater to boats coming off trailers to many drain plugs left out to jet ski's slamming into boats and of course boats hitting other boats at the ramp or at the docks and so on and so on. The comedy never ends at that lake. Many jet ski people there as well if that tells you anything.

Are there any inland lakes near Houston?
