Default St. Johns River boating

Where is a good place to go along the river to go boating if you have never been there? Some place around the springs to swim in. Any places to stay that have docks? Are there any State Parks of hotels?

I went last year and stayed at Hoonton landing, nice enough place, I think most of the river has speed limit but the lakes are wide open. Boat broke 1st day so I didn't get to really experince the river other then a 25mph poontoon we rented.

Default Welaka Lodge & Resort

A good friend of mine owns Welaka Lodge & Resort in Welaka and has several really nice cottages available, many RV sites, great amenities and slips available for different size boats. It is located at mile marker 50 and is about 15-30 minute boat ride to Silver Glen Springs and Salt Springs.

His website is http://www.welakalodge.com/index.html

Z302 or anybody Is boating on the lake and river pretty easy to navigate and find the springs? Are there many restaurants that are close and have dockage? Is it worth bringing a boat?
