Default Key west

Headed to key west by car 12/24 with family thinking of stopping maybe at islamorada for lunch and a couple of hours. Need some fun waterfront lunch spots .

Island Fish Co. On Marathon is good. Hog Fish on Stock Island is good. Conch Rebuplic in historic seaport KW is good.

Food is great, but the place leaves a lot to be desired. No view.

FPC stops here almost every run. The atmosphere is nice, but the food leaves a bit to be desired. OK view, but only of the ditch (channel through the mangroves).

Great food and nice property. 2 restaurant choices: nice sit down off the water, or tiki-bar right on the Atlantic with fantastic view.

Leave EARLY. The traffic is going to get worse the closer you get to KW. It's only a 2-lane road for 4 hours of driving ending in an island that's only 6 miles long by 2 miles wide; and everyone has to find their niche when they get there. It's a very fragile road. Take drinks and snacks because if there is an accident you will be stuck in your car for a while, and all the of the restaurants will be packed. The traffic is always heavy on the holidays.

I was in Key West a couple years ago on 12/23 and 12/24. Not exactly dead but not very busy either. Found a B&B last minute, traffic was fine. Lunch at the Fish Co. on the way down. Absolutely no waiting at the bars or restaurants. Was riding a motorcycle so passing on the shoulder was pretty easy when cars ahead were polite enough to yield a little to the right. Didn't see many families...mostly 40/50 year old couples from the Midwest. Would highly recommend this time if you aren't looking for big crowds.

Don't miss the Mel Fisher museum. Absolutely incredible treasures just a 1/2 inch of plexiglas away from never having to work again.
