Question Fuel Consumption/Cruise Speed

Anybody have an idea on what the fuel consumption, RPM and cruise speed are for an older Dominator....1994 with carbed 7.4's?

Found tons of info on the older Mag motors and even one post on the 7.4 EFI's but not so much on the carbed 7.4's. Thanks!

Posted this over on the Susnsation website as well....but think there's probably a larger crowd here.

Not sure about the 7.4s, but my 454 mags, 385 HP got about 2.2 MPG at cruise, which was 2700- 2800 RPM at 40 - 41 MPH. That was the sweet spot on those engines. Not sure what the sweet spot is on the 7.4s.

Oh yeah - mine was a 2000 dominator hull, probably not much different than you are asking about.....

The speed the boat lays over and will take some trim before the secondaries open is what I call cruise. It may take more r's than mentalpauses example with less power. I ran 7.4's in a 30 and could never cruise less than 4000, Just to impatient.

Thanks John!

They're probably the same hull....although not sure what year they started playing around with steps. Thought it was around 2000??

The post I found on the 7.4MPI had them around 2.5mpg @ 3100RPM for about 42-43mph. I've got to beleive the carb version has to be close to that. But like Mobile says above, gotta watch not to open up the secondaries or I'll be stopping at every gas dock I pass!

Steps got added after 2000. I think it was more like 2004 or 2005.
