32 footer with 496MagHO's
I am looking at a 2001 32 Dominator with 496MagHO's, and K Planes. It also has AC, frig, microwave, TV/VCR, so it is a little on the heavy side.
What kind of speed can I expect out of it, any thing I should know.

Hey boatinbill I have a 2002 32' Dominator with 496 Mag HO's loaded with all the stuff the boat you are looking has, Out of the box it ran 77.8 MPH on GPS. I think your looking at 80+/- depending on the boat. Check your e-mail I'm sending you a personal message.

I have been asking around and it seems that, depending upon the options on the boat (AC, frig, microwave, etc) and water conditions, low 80's to high 70's is the norm. I have ridden in a couple of 32 Dominators in the last couple of years, fastest was one with twin HP500's at near 90, slowest was 68 with twin 6.2's (he's adding blowers to it this fall). I will say that the 6.2's (this boat also has AC, frig, Microwave and tv/vcr) was the best balanced of the lot. Easy to drive, real responsive to trim, flys level and lands soft. The ones with the BB's felt and were more butt heavy. I currently have a HP500EFI in my 27' Formula Fastech and had a 454 Mag in my 21' Celebrity, love that BB sound, hate that Merc HP pricing. 496Mag HO's seem the way to go, easy maintenance, only 45hp less than a HP500, a lot less expensive to buy and repair.
32 footer here I come, 80 will suit me just fine

Dave,
It will probably be after the boating season but I will post pictures and brag a bit I am sure, no other boat in the running for my money right now.

I guess what I didn't say is that I run with poeple who top out at about 65-70, we don't run that fast to often but ocassionally do 30-40 mile stretches at WOT. In addition, I get to the lake a lot more often than them an dput more hours on my boat than they do. My current 27 Formula tops out at about 70, and after four Poker Runs at WOT, and few hundred miles of the other WOT runs in the last four seasons I blew the number 7 piston and have been down most of the summer. Just got the boat back this week. Man those HP500EFI's are expensive to buy parts for.
I want something that is not running WOT at 65-70 so I don't stress everything like I do now when I am running with my buddies.
Sure 80 is fun in the right conditions (a big condition for me is not any other boats around and just a little chop, not many wakes, as I have my wife and two kids on board (6 and 9)) so I do not think I will run 80 that often. Knowing I can will be enough, with the occassional burst for the thrill of it.

Dave, are the new ITS drives optional for the twin 496HO's on the Dominator? If so, what are the performance differences with & without? I'm contemplating late fall 2003 to put one on order if I decide to not procharge my 288 496HO...
