Super Boat International Racing Series
Morehead City, NC
September 18th – 20th, 2009

Morehead City, N.C. (September 16, 2009) – The Super Boat International Racing Series (Super Boat International) docks this weekend in Morehead City, NC for the 7th installment of the National points racing series season. The almost 300-year old tourist and fishing community will host what has become a mainstay event on the city calendar. Super Boats will run a just-over 5-mile course on Bogue Sound, which separates the outer Bogue banks and the mainland’s Carteret County. Fans and residents get to see the action from all sides.

“This is just a great place to race. The community really gets behind the event and everyone is so friendly here in North Carolina, comments John Carbonell, founder of Super Boat International. The fans get treated to up-close viewing near the port terminal finish line. Morehead City is one of two working ports in North Carolina and has been a great host to the offshore racing circuit.

Carbonell continues, ‘we are very happy to be returning to the North Carolina shores this year. The past seasons here have turned out to be great races. This year has been very tough for many families and race teams with the down economy, so it’s nice to be able to bring some thrill and excitement here and put on a good show.”

The Morehead City race is a very important event for race teams as they head into October. Teams want to perform well here with a top finish, knowing the next race is the double points National Championships race. A strong finish here means positive momentum heading to the final points race of the season and a chance to be crowned National Champion.

Peter Meyer, owner of the Seminole Hard Rock Vee bottom, always enjoys Morehead City. “I like coming to North Carolina and racing. It’s a great place to race with a bunch of really nice people… it seems like home. Fountain Powerboats produces great boats and I’ve always appreciated the support I have gotten from Reggie Fountain and his team,” exclaims Meyer.

Racing this weekend starts with teams arriving downtown Morehead City on Friday September 18th and setting up their boats and rigs in the dry pits. Saturday, from noon to 4:00 p.m., boats will be testing and Sunday, September 20th, races start at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., with the awards ceremony starting around 5:00 p.m.
