Splash wells on 24 OB

Is it necessary to have the motor splah well on the current 24 OB model? It would seem that if the well was enclosed and the rear seat moved back, you would have a nice large cockpit area on an excellent 24' boat. I see a setback on Mr. Bash's 24. It got me thinking that enclosing the motor well wouldn't be a problem.
