While we're at it anyone tried a 24 w/extension box?

The y2k thread got me thinking... anyone try it on a 24?


I always thought it would respond well to it, but not so sure it'd be worth it after reading that... I can try the -3 shorty drive I'll have put together this spring for the 21 on the 24 and see what happens. I have a straight bottom, light layup and always thought that it would like a -2 shorty or an extension box. I have to use quite a bit of trim to fly it, though. Maybe someone has already tried this and can shed some light on it?

An extension box on a straight bottom, no notch 24' boat is going to work well. I don't know anyone with a 24' Super that has done it but I've talk to guys with similar hulls that have had success.
The -3 shorty is not going to work on your 24'. You will loose all of the bow lift. A -1" or -2" would work but only with a 4 or 5 blade prop.
I know a guy that raised the prop shaft to 2-1/2" below the bottom on a 24' and then had to add a spacer to get the boat to run even with a 5 blade prop.
I had thought about adding a box and a -2 drive on my 24' Super but the cost was not going to be way too high.

Yeah, I would have bet money that the -3 lower woldn't have enough leverage to get the hull outta the water. I've always thought it would respond well to the box with a 3" lift.
Pat were you thinking about a neutral box and -2shorty, or the 3" lift and shorty?

I would not want to raise the engine up and screw with the CG and also have clearance issues with the hatch.

Damn Pat, your right about the hatch clearance... I went out and measured. I have 1" from the flame arrestor to the hatch- I always assumed I had quite a bit more than that! I can get around the exhaust relocation, but not the hatch issues!
