Hey ZZ,
New camshaft?
Do your boat engines winter inside like mine have the last few years?
I spent 4 hours cleaning my basement today to make room for rebuilding my little 7.4L. Boat and engine parts are everywhere...
Hell, nothing to do outside, 9°F for a high today.
Later,

ZZ, so what cam are you going with?
How much more are you hoping for?

I got my re-calibrated ECU back yesterday. I am hoping to stay with the MPI. If I don't gain at least 400rpm, a carb and high rise intake will replace it.

Thanks for the offer Mike!
Probably too much cam for my little 7.4.
Hang onto it for someone that has a bigger engine.
I bought a custom grind roller from Marine Engines in Mass.
It's supposed to give me another 40-50 ponies which will max out my GM injection system.
Ordered up a gasket set today, time to start tearing into it.
Talk to you soon,

Pat who is putting the motor together.Installing the cam spring height push rod length and so on. Make sure you have the good valves.Comp cams makes a roller lifter that has a grove in it that sprays pressurized oil onto the wheel of the roller. Not just splashed from below,at startup and sitting for weeks at a time this is a great option.

Hey ZZ,
I had my heads done at a local machine shop.
Bowl ported, new Manley severe duty ss valves, new springs, retainers, and locks.
The cam I purchased will work with all of the other stock GM valve train parts.
I am reassembling the engine.
Not going too wild with this engine, it's not worth the $$. Remember, it's got a cast crank, the small rods, and the GM fuel injection.
My plans are for a 502 next year, just doing a little tinkering along the way.

Hey Zuperboat,
Is your engine a 540 tall deck or a stroker 502 block.
I have a friend with a stroker. He built his with Merlin VRs, the Crane 741, and I think about 9.5 to 1 compression.
Dyno tested at 585HP @ 5600 I believe...
So what's your plan? 600+HP, looking for 90mph?
It's -2°F outside, so I'm trying to think Boats and Bikinis.
