Sutphenman/ I'll bet your kinda close to Stonington, CT? Used to be a ton of Sutphens up there! Are there many Sutphens around where your at? I've got a 91 39' with #4's on boxes, 510/750 Eickert motors. How about yourself? How long have you been into one of Richie's boats? I have had a 20, 26, 31 and now this. No complaints on any!

sutphens
Your right, Im not too far from stonington. I partnered on a 38 top gun from 92-98 then we sold. I downsized to a 20' sutphen so I could use it on my restricted lake AND L.I. sound. Went looking for Donzis but ended up with a 2000 small block 210ss sutphen built by Ritchie Jr. in N.J. He only built 6 that year. They are still very rare here but I like it that way. Yours sounds awesome, tell me about your 20. Dave

Sutphenman/ I sold an 18 Donzi when I bought my 20 Sutphen (1983). The 20 ran as fast as the 18 with the same power and handled the water a little better. definetly handled higher speeds better. 20 had a 350/350 we went thru, Isky 280 cam, Chev 'turbo heads", 750 holley and some Gills. Boat had an Alpha drive with a nose cone. Boat ran around 70, but back then I don't think we had any accurate speedos. Traded the boat into the dealer in Stonington and purchased a 26 with out boards, which ended upo being a pair of 2.5 EFI Offshores on a SM bracket. Motors were mounted quite high and the boat was really nice. Ran aroiund 85 on a Nordskog. 31 had some 620hp KE's/Bravos and ran around 93-4. 39 runs around 87-88. 26 and 31 were the most fun. 39 is a great ride across the rougher stuff and actually runs fairly decent for it's size. 31 would be a nice river/bay boat for your area!

Bob -- Wish I could afford a 31'. I'll upgrade in a couple years. I've been very impressed with the 20's hull strength, it seems indestructable. It will definately take more than my kidneys will. My favorite thing is to get 5 people in it with a full tank and beverages and go slamming around L.I. sound. I got a ride in a 26 with twin engines once. It was in Stonington at a dealership before we bought the Top Gun. That test drive hooked me on performance boats. I never forgot that Sutphen...it rocked.
