I remember this from my friends baja dealership. my 88 had the 330hp 7.4 and they had two 250 sports with the mag 365hp 454 plus a friend had a sutphen87/88 with trs 454 370hp way back then. I will tell the guy with the sutphen he is still looking for motors. JEFF I tried very had to get him to buy yours last year the 496s they were sweet. later art ps is that for the pair I take it 3000gs. since they should be gone threw.
I might be mistaken, but I thought these were the ones that had cast internals like the 330's, but had rectangle heads and cast internales.

The good forged 454's are great pieces. With a little comp upgrade, and a good exhaust, you can get a little wild with the cams and make good power. I have done over 500HP with one and not gone out of the range of operability.

By the way, the 496's are actualy going into my Nortech V hull right now.

Those are Gen V 454 mags/365HP with good internals.

Forged crank and pistons. The stock flat tappet cam is .510/510, 224/224, 115.5 lobe sep.

If that is 3k for the pair, they are a great deal.

There is a solid flat and a hydralic flat. Merc would have used the hydraic flat.

What is the compression ratio for these motors? Does anybody know for sure if the pistons are cast of forged?

I believe they should be 8.5-1 compression, with forged pistons, crank, and dimple rods.

Jeff I'm looking for somemore HP gains out of my 454. What upgrades did you make to get 500HP out of it?

You can really make more than that, but it all depends on the exhaust. What exhaust are you working with and then I can give yo some pointers.

8.75 comp ratio. The pistons are forged TRW's.
