Default Heritage Trailer $750

I have a 2001 Heritage trailer built for a Baja 252 for sale. It is a steel trailer and the frame rails are rusting inside. Just about everything else on this trailer is new within the last 1 1/2 years. This includes tires, UFP brake calipers and pads, bearings, seals, lights, brake master cylinder, bunks, bunk carpet etc. Also has spare hub, bearings, tire, caliper etc.

Now I would not recommend anyone buy this trailer if they want to tow long distance, but they could if they wanted to reinforce the bottom of the frame rails with some angle iron.

If you primarily keep your boat in dry storage over the summer and wanted to put it on a trailer and save some $$ over the winter or have a short tow or want to make a perfect fit lift frame out of it or keep it on a lift and need an occasional trailer to get the boat in for service or gas, it would be just great for all that.

This trailer will be good for just about any 24 degree non step hull in the 20 -25 foot range. Additional deadrise angles could be accommodated by building up the bunks with additional 2x6's.

If I can't sell the whole trailer I will be parting it out and scrapping the frame so that is also an option if you need any of the parts (axles, brakes, tires, wheels etc).

The trailer is located in Alabama.

I am not in the market for a trailer, but it is pretty big of you to point out how rusted the inside of the rails are. many folks would sell it without ever disclosing that. Kudos to you!

Thank you!

Boating is a small world. Power boating a subset of that. Performance boating a very small subset of that.

There is no reason to ever be anything other than nice and helpful to each other.

I know it's got to be difficult to tell, but just how bad is the rusting. Is it through the tubes and visible from the outside? Please explain or send close-up photos to

tbarta26"at"hotmail.com

Thanks,
Travis

Nope, not through the tubes. The rear cross member (under the transom) is actually new about 1.5 years ago. I replaced that one. Heritage was real nice to make me up one.

I did drill a hole on each end cap at the back of the frame rails to allow water to drain and the inside to dry out. I am getting some rust flakes (dime and nickel size) out of these holes. If Heritage had put these holes in at the start the trailer would be in a lot better shape. As it was, there is no coating or anything inside the tubes and with the water trapped in there....

I will get a closeup of this and post in the morning but in the meantime, here are a couple of other shots. In the rear view you can see the drain holes.

In all honesty there is no telling how long the trailer will last. That was my problem. It could last another 10 years for all I know. If we boat we have to trailer about 80 miles each way and in the end it is just not worth the worry.

Hi Dan,

Like the trailer...very interested and have friends in Atlanta so distance is not to great to cause an issue for me (live in Western NC).

Out of curiousity, are you instested in any trades? I have a Shoreline Galvanized wobble roller drive on trailer that should handle up to 27? Deep V (trailer is approx 25' overal) that I want to get rid of and get a more "custom" trailer like yours for my 24 Deep V.

Funny, I am taking it to NY this weekend to get another boat, too bad you aren't between NC and NY, we could do a swap-a-roo if we could work a deal.

Let me know if there is any interest and we can go from there. If you already have another trailer I still may want to buy this one outright. PM or email contact is fine.

Here are the close up pictures I promised. These pictues of of the worst rust areas I am aware of, but assume the rust to be all the way up the tubes. These are the drain holes that I put in the end plates to allow water etc out of the frame rails.

The suspension picture I just put in for reference as this seems to be the area that usually goes first. It looks fine on this one.

Thank you and perhaps it is not, but I would rather represent it as worse than it is than have someone drive to take a look and it not meet expectations.
