Seeing as it comes with a few Gil manifolds and the cmi's I'm guessing they leaked and that's why rebuilds are necessary. 5k each is reasonable, plus misc other expenses, seals gaskets fluids etc. prob end up 20-22k over purchase price to be running if you do a lot of work yourself. Not bad if you want a trip 41 formula

Yea, the port engine developed high oil temps one weekend and pulled valve cover to notice the old chocolate milk shake. Turns out these are the early CMI's without the cool collar and they craked where the pipe meets the manifold flang that bolts to the head. Blocks, heads, cranks, etc. are in good shapee and at the engine shop being cleaned and ready for 0.030 bore, but haven't pulled the trigger yet on boring the blocks. Picked up the gil manifolds a while back, but they are in good shape, friend replaced them with cyclone headers with dry exhaust as he was running a big cam. Pistons all came out numbered 1--8, so I am assuming engines had not had previous major work as I understand merc racing built that way.
