Hey Johnny. Measure the anchor pin that holds the trim cylinders to the drive. A regular III will have a 7/8 pin. A 3A, will have a 1'' pin.

A 3A will have a 26 spline propshaft, but, its not uncommon for someone to install the 26 spline shaft into a standard III drive.

If they are standard III drives, used, I'd say 2G per drive, 500 ea on the gimbles, maybe 500ea on the trannys. I'd think the whole package, maybe 6-7k. These drives used to be worth big money, as people used to buy them up for TRS conversions and what not years ago. Just don't think the demand is that high anymore for them. Good drives though.

Here is a picture of my 3A's if it helps, and yes 26 spline, larger pin are the identifiers that I know of. Also I believe the skeg is slightly different. Good Luck with the sale

Thumbs up

You may have cresent 3,s with big shafts....still not 3As though. The leading edge of a 3A lower has less curve I believe. Many people used the #4 shaft in a 3 lower before the 3A was out. Not aware of any "cheater" shafts but a big shaft in a 3 case has worked great for me for many years. Good luck with the sale.

used the word "cheater" due to lack of a better term, however the end all result is the save, a big shaft #3 is still just a #3... the upper is not able to handle the same load as a 3a... bigger bearings, etc and net forged straight cut gears are where it excells
