I ran #5's (factory rated for 750hp) on my heavy 38 flat deck Cigarette with twin 1100hp PSI blown BBC and had absolutely no trouble with them for years. The #4 is basically the same with a slightly smaller bearing. They, the #4, were used for many years in both pleasure and racing applications, so there are still parts around for them. I would not be afraid of using a #4 behind a 800-900hp engine. In my opinion there is no comparison to the Bravo XR. You could not give me a boat with any Bravo drive, if you were going to deviate from a stock Mercury low performance engine. The Bravo will not hold up. My opinions only.
