Im the buyer on these and only getting around to commenting on it now because it took awhile for Dave at MDG to get around to working on them, then i was overseas by the time the picture became really clear and only back last week. The motors have not been fired up yet, the good news is that the leak down test numbers were good (all around 10%). The bad news was that all the accessories appear to be original (gen 5 blocks so 92-95?) and the verdict is that i'll need to replace all of it along with missing bracketry pricing out to around 9k (for Mercury stuff) if i expect them to run at all reliably. Dave's recommended replacing everything: Oil coolers & rigging, water temp senders, flywheel has broken teeth, ignition, wiring harness looks dodgy and missing brackets. One fuel pump actually came with a tag hanging off which says "Tested weak low PSI at RPM needs to be replaced". The seller Genob claims that he never saw that large tag which is unmissable, but in a phone call he acknowledges that he planned to scrap all the accessories and swap them over from his previous engines. Well Gene, ya think maybe you should have honestly disclosed all that in your ad when we discussed how great these would replace my worn out motors and set me up for reliable boating with rebuilt engines?
He's offered me a couple hundred for one new fuel pump and beyond that i can go pound sand. This surprise along with some other unforeseen developments means my summer on the water may be over before it began. A disappointing and hard lesson learned.
