The 06 Duramax is as quiet or quieter than the Cummins especially in the cold. The Ford comes with extra soundproofing

Re: Duramax, official tow vehicle of OSO
my LBZ is as quiet as my 496 truck after it's warm. Standing at the passenger door you hear the wooooosh of the exhaust over the engine!
Power? I never thought it would be this much stronger than my LLY...it is.
This damn thing is crazy fast for what it is. This is with > 500 miles on it. The Allison is so smart the tap-shift is pretty worthless, your no faster, and probably slower manual shifting it. I do use it for engine braking though when I'm coming in too hot. Saves on brakes!

In our area the rednecks drive the ford trucks, usually decorated with some body damage from a drunk driving wreck they didn't have any insurance to cover ,a confederate flag in the back window which makes no sense since we live in the north and its been 150 years since the civil war,a nice yama-hauler sticker on the tailgate, busch cans rattling around in the back,a set of home made stacks, and them stupid light antennas mounted on the side mirrors

Re: Duramax, official tow vehicle of OSO
We have 3 ford f350,s in our transport business, and wish ford would buy all of them back. one of them is an 05 that has been in the shop 14 times since last april, think god its under warranty, the 03 had a new powerstroke put in at 200,000 miles it cost 12,000 parts and labor not under warranty, and it just went down again last week.if i was going to buy another ford it would have to be a 7.3, the 6.0 are strong they just don't last at all. also not trying to start anything just telling my experience.

Much, if not all of the noise associated with the pre 2003 Cummins was from the old VP-44 injection pump. When they got rid of that and went with the High Pressure Common Rail injection, all of the noise went away. I have to admit, I miss the noise, but it is nice being able to go through a drive through without having to turn the engine off.
