Re: Better Warranties.....It's about time!!!!
Its good news.
This is the same strategy Chrysler and some of the recent pacific rim manufacturers have used. When their quality was in question, they gave powertrain warranties which bettered any of the competition.
What they had actually come to realize was that most drivetrain components were already lasting 100k miles so it was not a big deal to offer the warranty (its usually all the non-drivetrain items that crap out). THe 100k mile warranty offering is really the biggest single thing which turned Chrysler sales around...via Iacocca. For the cost of a small percentage (I have seen numbers like .05%............note, that is 1/20 of a single percent) in additonal warranty costs, their sales went up about 40-60% almost overnight.
For example, on a new Duramax, I would certainly expect all drivetrain components to last 100k without problems. But its nice to know you have it.
I have an extended 100k on my f250......may have to use it on the rear differential but I have a feeling its going to hang in there until say............oh, about 101k.
