Default 2004 6.0 Problem

I change my fuel filters every 5,000 miles or so. Everytime I pull the old filters they are soft, mushy, collapsed and somewhat twisted up and deformed. Anybody else see this or have a clue whats doing it?

I change mine every 15K on my '05 6.0L, never experienced that.
Maybe you're buying some really dirty fuel and after the filter clogs, the pump just mangles the filter elements with its pressure.

I only buy diesel from high-volume sellers. Truck stops are best. There's a gas station not far from me with diesel- he sells lots of it but has only 2 pumps. The lines are six deep at times. I'll buy there if I catch a slow period.

Which filter is giving you problems? Both? I think 5K is a bit early- you can't hurt anything by doing it though. Are you getting frequent water lights from your separator?

I don't even know if there's such a thing as an aftermarket fuel filter for the 6.0 yet. I know they now have oil filters in Purolator- I'll start using them now that the warranty is up on my one 6.0

Nah, don't sweat it. Replacement motors are only 16 grand.

I only use Ford filters and run the same fuel in my other two 7.3 engines and some other equipment. Never had the water light come on. Very weird ... It happend since day one with the first filters.

If you've never had the water light come on, you probably have a separator issue. All diesel has water in it and the separator does get it out. It has to go somewhere.
