Default Mid/Late '90s Chevy Diesel Pro/Cons

Found a '97 Chevy 3500 4x4 dually diesel (140k) that I am considering. Truck has a 6.5 turbo diesel and just looking for the pros/cons of this truck and also the weak points. Have no clue on chevys. Any input?

Truck is listed under $10K so even though I'd prefer a dodge I can't pass it up.

I had a 6.5 in a '94 crew cab and it was a great truck. Sold it with 245K miles on it. Yo ujust have to get used to not being the fastest up the hill. Also, there aren't alot of bolt on mods for it without. The bottom end is really weak, and from what I found years ago, if you want to really start making power, you pretty much need to build a new engine up from scratch if you want it to live. Injection pumps are another issue, and really the only problem I ever had with mine.

You can search the web and find a few forums. www.Dieselplace.com is a good one, as is www.gm-diesel.com. www.62-65-dieselpage.com is another one.

Thanks for the replies and links. Good information. Sounds like this truck should fit the bill just fine. Other trucks I was looking at was a yukon xl and a 2500 dodge (both gas).

i worked at a chevy dealership when they were out. saw a lot of them coming in for service with a lot of problems. most people would say they traded in a good diesel for a bad one. not sure which diesel was before this one.
