Default 137K miles - Too many for this $$$

Looking at a 2002 2500HD 4WD Extended Cab Chevy with the 8.1 - LS inteior (cloth seats etc) 137K miles so it's been used!

Asking price is 12K, what do you guys think on $$$ vs the high mileage. Be strickly a tow vehicle for off and on weekends only.

I'm not looking to spend over 12K and have till spring to find something..

Depends on the interior options like power seats & console, plus stuff like pwr extending mirrors, dual batts, etc. If it has dual power seats and the center console, and everything else is really clean, might be worth 10-11k.
Also, see if you can get the "in-service" date. My 2001 was built in Oct. 2000 and put on the road by Jan 2001. Give the VIN to any GM dealer service department and they should be able to tell you a lot if it was serviced at a dealer.
137k miles, it's just starting to loosen up (the chassis that is!!!) 156k on mine and no signs of falling apart any time soon...

I think it's just at the top of the money. If it's at top condition and service history...

highway miles? Working miles?

Tap the hour meter and divide with miles will tell you average speed, helps determine the truck's use, or if it makes sense with the history the seller gives you.

Seen yours, this has the Automatic Cuda which is a must if the wife is gonna help out at all loading, towing when we do. Can't believe you have not sold that Dually yet.

BTW, was the Allison auto standard with the 8.1 in 02 as well? Anyone?

ZPD- I would stay away from a gas engine w/ that many miles. Things like water pumps, alternators, etc. start wearing out at 150-175k miles. I frankly consider 200k miles the point at which you do a major overhaul on a gas engine.

You should be able to find one w/ 1/2 that miles for $ 12,000.

PeteB: You obviously maintain yours but the fact of the matter is many components on these engines are designed for about 200-250k miles. Gas engine trucks usually have a higher ratio axle- hence more lifetime revolutions. The bearings on alternators and water pumps usually give up the ghost about that mileage.

Puder: 35k miles - thats hardly broken in.
