What Do You Tow With?

The manufacturer of the truck said that most people tag it as an RV, but I just went with regular non-commercial tags. In Maryland you can tag anything as non-commercial as long as it is registered in your name (not business) and used only for personal use (not for hire). With the weight rating of this truck it could either be registered in Maryland as a class E (commercial) or a class EPO (non commercial), which is what I did. The only catch with going this way instead of tagging it as an RV is that you need the appropriate class of license to drive it. Like with the tags, Maryland will issue any class of license as non-commercial. The written test is a little different than a commercial test, but the driving portion of the test is still the same. So you could get a full blown class 8 truck (full size tractor), tag it in the correct weight class as non-commercial and you can operate it with the correct class non-commercial license. It is a nice option to have available from the state. It allows you the license to drive the bigger trucks without having to go through all the extra stuff associated with a CDL license.
The reason that I tagged the truck this way instead of as an RV was because I figured that it could help a little with any liability issues. It may or may not help, but if I am ever in an accident with this setup I at least have a license from the state that says I passed their proficiency tests to be able to operate this size of truck/trailer. If I tagged it as an RV I could operate it with a regular license, but there is nothing to back me up that says I am capable of operating this setup. Anyhow, since I already had the license I tagged it in the correct weight class with regular, non-commercial tags. If I had only a regular license, I would have tagged it as an RV. Minor details, but that is the way I went with it. Did that make any sense?

I tow my 29 Progression with a Z71 Tahoe.. It does pull it pretty well but on the highway it is approaching its limits. My buddy tows his with a Avalanche and it does much better with the longer wheel base. Thinking of getting a Suberban next..
