What's better 2500 Avalanch or 3500 dually for towing Apache

OK, here's the question. I've already made my decision, but I wanna hear yours.

I've got 2 real good friends that are argueing about which truck will tow and pull a 41 Apache better. Oh no, did I say Apache and argue in the same sentance??? OK, now, My one buddy has an 05 2500 series Avalanch with the trailer package, and he say that his Avalanch will out pull and tow the Apache better than his buddies 94 gmc 3500 extended cab dually. The dually has a 4.10 gear with a 454 engine. These guys last night just made a bet for $5K and their Rolex's on which truck will out tow the other one !!! They were argueing till 1 in the morning.

The guy with the 05 says that his truck has better technology so that's why it'll tow better, and the other guy says that his truck is a 94, but it has a big block with a 4.10 gear, and has 6 wheels pulling the boat out of the water instead of 4, so his will be the better one.

My money's on the dually. Next week after the one guy gets back from vacation, they're gonna take both trucks down to the harbor, hook a chain to both of their hitches, and see who's gonna pull who backwards.
Just lookin for some opinions here, and "yes" I'm gonna bring my video camera.

In a tug of war, the dually should win. I would much rather own the Avalanch 2500 over the old Chevy dually, especially with 410 rear-end.

is either one a 4x4? In a tug-o-war its gonna be a tough call cause the dually will have no weight in the rear for the tires to bite with....if he had a few hundred lbs back there i'd bet the dually anyday....the avalanches are cool trucks and if given the choice for a free truck i'd take the avalanche...but for towing give me the dually anyday...the wheelbase alone of the dually outdoes the avalanche anyday for towing....try pulling 10k+ trailer at 80mph and get a good gust of wind hitting you sideways...been there done that...and was pushed in to the next lane....thank god for the dually cause i think i would have been jackknifed otherwise.....

Tell the guy with $5K extra cash and a Rolex that drives a 1994 Dually to buy a new truck.

Here is the best part. NEITHER ONE OF THEM can tow a 41 Apache legally; so its a stupid mute point.

LMAO Yes, and plenty of it for the guy with the Avalanch. He just won't admit that a dually no matter how old it is will out tow a 2500 pickup. Both guys are stubborn, and whoever wins will get $5K and the other guys Rolex.

Yes, I also agree with Mark Smith, if I had the choice of either truck, I would rather have the newer one, but that was'nt the question. The question is which one will pull and tow the 41 Apache better.
This is gonna get real intresting. Too bad neither guy goes on OSO.

Exactly how are you going to "quantify" what's better? They're both 4wd, so they'll both pull it out of the water. The dually has 4.10s but what about the Avy? You could get 4.10s in the 4wd. The 2500 Avy has the 8.1L but only the 4L85E so I think it'd be the same ratios as the dually if it's an auto.
At the end of a windy day though, the dually driver will feel a lot better than the Avy guy.

The Avy does'nt have a big block. It has whatever the standard engine is. The axel ratio is 3.73. The dually has the longer wheelbase from what I can see.
