I disagree, mine is a phenomenal truck. I am getting rid of my loaded Lincoln town car with only 23k miles because the ride handling and quiet operation are so similar. The Lincoln gets 16 mpg and the f450 (with 4.88 rear ) gets 12.2 with the same exact routes and driving style.

My new 450 is getting 12.6mpg with the 4.88 rear. My 2002 450 got 16mpg with the 4.30 rear, but I honestly don't care. The 450 is a purpose built truck. If you need to haul more weight than a 1 ton will legally handle, but don't need a medium duty hauler, the 450 is the ticket. It is designed to tow and it does that really well. So the mileage isn't as good as a 350. Who cares? The 450 will do things that a 350 legally cannot. Put a 4.88 rear in any truck and see what happens to the fuel mileage.
If I was looking for good fuel economy I would be driving a compact car. So to me, saying the 450 sucks or that it is not a good truck because it doesn't get great mileage is like saying a Corvette sucks because it gets stuck on the beach. It seems that all purpose built vehicles excel in one area, but at the expense of some kind of sacrifice in another area.
By the way, Roger, this is not directed at you. It's just my personal feeling about the truck.

Exactly..also guys with job 1 and I believe 2...a few things have been done to improve mileage like on job 3 trucks. One is longer air housing, I saw it mentioned on an earlier thread.

By the way, the 04 6.0 diesel excursion I traded in on it got 14.3 (3.73 rear). The quieter motor and turning radius alone make it worth the 2mpg. Not to mention the 24k tow rating (11k on the Excursion).

Its still a pick up truck, I like the truck but why not use a Freightliner to pull the boats, same milage. Tractor trailers get the same as the 450 pulling 70,000 pounds. I am not picking on the Fords alone. The FEDS have screwed up all of the new diesels. Just my opinion.
