99 F250 7.3 with chip... summer 15-17 empty average, 15 towing cars, 11-13 towing boat 32 Baja depends on speeds.

I look at it this way, towing a bigger boat... if you get over 10 you are doing good !!!!

Is it wrong to complain about getting 7mpg in a truck while towing a boat that might get 1 1/2 mpg at best?

If you had a DMAX you would not have to worry about momentum.

I spent a little time pulling with a new 6.4L PSD last month in Florida. When I figured out that I could count the MPG on one hand towing 12,000 lbs.; I just gave up on the actual number.

I did like the truck though, but I love my 2000 7.3 PSD. I have a DRW CC and get 8-9 MPG towing 12K lbs. +/-.

A LOT of things like tire size, wheel size, overall weight, speed, gear ratio, SRW/DRW, 2WD/4WD, camper shell, and frontal surface area of what you are towing varies MPG by as much as 5-10 MPG.

Ouch LOL !!! I would still carry speed into the hills even If I was pulling w/a Dmax. The power on the dodge is excellent, I just don't see the point on giving a bunch of brake (with in reason of course) when going down a hill when I have 400 yds of flat and then go back up another hill. I just let her coast down and carry that momentum into the next one and that is when my speedo might run over the the 70mph mark.

I have always had Chevy's. My old 95 blazer has over 200k miles and is still going strong as a daily driver. The dodge was about 8k cheaper and that in the end weighed in heavily.

2007 Dodge 2500 4x4/ 6.7 Cummings Diesel
Average including highway 17-18 mpg.
Towing, 42 Fountain -- average 10-11 mpg.
I like the jake brake setup for slowing everything down. Works very well with electric over hydraulic brakes.
