gcwr is 23,500. Max trailer wt is 15,900. if you are not over 750 lbs tongue weight you could tow 15,900 w/out wd according to tblrklakemo this must mean the truck weighs7600 lbs .. sounds right .. iv'e had many suburbans and many duallies, this 08 gmc tows the best by far of any truck i've had (not counting my columbia chassis freightliner, but thats another story)

No....your too far into something thats not there. According to you I need to hook up my WD system to my EMPTY trailer if its mearly rated to hold 13k lbs. Tongue and actual trailer weight be damned.
It says your rated to pull a trailer at 13k lbs with a WD system. That easy.

Out of the owners man ... k-3500 crew cab dual rear wheels gcrw 23,500 /max trailer wt 15,900 lbs/ * trailer rating limited to 13000 lbs with wt distributing hitch/ the gcrw is tot allowable wt of completly loaded veh and trailer inc pass cargo equip and conversion.... hope this helps this is for an 08 gmc
says 15900 lbs max trailer wt....ie. a goose neck is a trailer that doesnt hook up to the frame reciever hitch and allows you to pull max trailer weight.
"trailer rating limited to 13000 lbs with wt distributing hitch/"
our frame reciever hitch is good to 13k lbs as long as your tongue weight is in check with a W/D system if you need it.

That is not an understatement... The way I see it you could derate your trailer to 13000 (or 12.500 with a 2001-2007) and be able to tow with a GMC 3500 using a WD. Or get a Ford and leave it as is, at least in my case where my trailer is rated to 15K (a standard 38 Myco). I was looking forward to a GMC, now I think the plan is on ice...

Sorry, you are wrong. It does not say "your rated to pull a trailer at 13k lbs with a WD system.". It says: "Trailer rating limited to 13,000 lbs (5 897 kg) with weight distributing hitch." As mentioned earlier, I stopped by the dealership yesterday, had a chat with the service supervisor who looked it up - it is RATING and NOT actual weight. Read your manual and verify. It is beyond stupid, no questions asked there, nevertheless it is what it is.
