Talk to Biggus. He had a Ford 460ci F-350 SRW, and he towed ALL OVER with that thing.

Had a buddy try one with a 36 Outlaw. He called me the first time he was towing and asked what RPM by 7.3PSD ran at towing my 36. I said we cruise at 70 MPH at about 2200 RPM.

He was turning 3300 RPM at 70 and the thing was screaming. He only got about 6 MPG towing and sold the truck shortly after.

Under 10K you really don't need a dually and gas is probably the best option. Over I would go with a diesel rig.

Good luck

We used a 1996 with a 460 back in '99, '00 and '01 while racing. Never had a problem, but it wasn't much of a load either.

I have a friend with one, eats gas, tows fine, like Doc said, over 10,000 get a diesel, I prefer diesel no matter what, you cannot replace that power, and a chip and exhaust make a BIG difference on a diesel, cannot get much with a gasser.

you can fine early powerstrokes cheap these days, I would look for one...

Well I bought the F-350 I was looking at. Test drove it and it ran great. Got it for $3000.00. Now the transmission has began to shift hard. Took it to a trans shop I know and put it on the scanner and codes came back that torque converter was overheating and building up pressure I believe the guy said. While he was in there he reset the codes and the truck drove fine again. He did say that it would need a complete rebuild. Somewhere between $1500.00 and $2000.00 with me taking it out and reinstalling it. Before I do all that I was thinking of draining the pan and torque converter and changing the filter and refilling with new fluid and putting in some Lucas trans treatment and also making sure all the cooling lines are good and trying my luck. Trying the cheapest way first. What do you think?

How many miles? Many reasons for the tranny to start shifting hard. M.LP.S.,T.P.S., v.s.s. All are sensors that are involved in controlling shift timing and firmness.
