The NV5600 is a iron case with larger internal shafts and gears than the G56. I ve seen both apart and can honestly verify this.

Catmando, watch any 3rd to 4th hard shift. Just rebuilt a g56that broke 4th gear. Guy was towing a tractor on a gooseneck.
I've heard that about the automatics, Chrysler just wanted to cut corners and go cheap. Nobody on the Cummins diesel forums has anything good to say about those TC/s.

I hear ya on the 3rd to 4th shift. When I'm not towing(which is all the time these days ) I start off in 3rd. Then I give the trans some extra time to get into 4th, especially if it's the first shift of the day. The fluid needs to warm up. I do a lot of downshifting in town too so the trans warms up fast.

you wont be disappointed with a cr 5.9 with the 5600. mine is still going great and bombed to the hilt since day 1.
618hp and 1442 ftlbs... i tow routinely over 500hp with a 10k travel trailer...

I think Dodge went with the G56 and the common rail motor, not the NV5600. I could be wrong though. I know mine is the G56. The Getrag is a really good unit, and Dodge uses it even in the 4500-5500 trucks.

618/1442 is serious power for a daily driver. When my wife retires we'll buy a big toyhauler and go full time RVing. I'll do some mods to the truck then to gain more torque and keep the EGTs down but I don't care about hp. I'm going to keep this one it's the 5.9.

Catmando, the G56 replced the NV5600 at the 2005.5 year mark. It is in no doubt a good transmission, lighter weight, closer gear pattern, but the NV 5600 does have heavier built internals. Also, it has a cast iron case as the Gertrag G-56 has an aluminum. Throw a dual disc clucth, a air dog 150 pump, smarty and MP8 on your 06 and go rip up some A$$PHALT

nope started out with the 5600 in late 01 with the vp44 trucks, then cr's started in 03... used the 5600 until mid 05, and went with the g56...

618 is fun, but there are plenty others out there making more.. lots more than me.

Damn right. My dodge that i trade in had ATS twins. ATS now makes a kit to use your stock dodge turbo in conjuction with their Aroura 5000 or 3000. But, a lot of boost needs head studs, possible fire rings, etc. So much fun though. Ill try and post some pulls from my red 05 and black 01 cummins. Both ran, uh, lets say rather well..........

Your truck sounds like it will hang right in there. whats it have for mods???? And you cant say a Superchip
